Course Description

International and Comparative Studies 330F/G Self and Other: Cultural Variations on Crusoe's Island

Students engage in close textual analysis in order to infer cultural differences and cultural similarities in the notions of self and other, of imperialism, primitivism, creativity, spirituality, community and communion which the Crusoe myth so often crystallises. Students will develop transferable critical skills by analysing the re-formulations of Defoe's original story.
