Course Description

Statistical Sciences 325a/b Applied Probability

Discrete- and continuous-time Markov chains, Poisson processes, Markovian queueing systems, and simulation (methods for generating random deviates and variance reduction).

Antirequisite: The former Actuarial Science 325a/b.
Prerequisites: One of: Calculus 280a/b and Calculus 281a/b, or equivalent, or the former Mathematics 204a and one of the former Mathematics 205b, 285b (see Department for equivalents); plus a minimum grade of "C" in Statistical Sciences 257a.
3 lecture hours, half course.
