Course Description

Statistical Sciences 236 Operations Research with Applications

Linear programming, networks, decision analysis, utility, game theory, inventory analysis, queueing theory, simulation, elementary Markov chains, forecasting. This is not a course in Introductory Statistics. With the exception of those students who were registered in second or third year of a 3-year BSc program in Statistics prior to September 1998, or those students registered in the BSc Statistics and Environmental Science program, this course cannot be taken for credit in any 3-year BSc program in statistics or honors program in statistics or actuarial science.

Antirequisites: The former Actuarial Science 325a/b, the former Actuarial Science 326b, Statistical Sciences 437a/b. This course is equivalent to Mathematics 236 and has the same antirequisites as Mathematics 236.
Prerequisites: a) One full course or equivalent, chosen from the following: Calculus 050a/b, either 051a/b or 081a/b, Applied Mathematics 026, Mathematics 030, 031, 028a/b; or the former Applied Mathematics 020, or 023a/b and 024a/b, or the former Mathematics 027, and b) if Mathematics 028a/b or 031 was not taken in a), one of the following must have been taken previously or concurrently during the fall term: Economics 122a/b, 222a/b; the former Mathematics 206a; Statistical Sciences 135, 241a/b or the former Statistical Sciences 232a, 255.
