FACULTY OF EDUCATION

PRE-SERVICE TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAMS

The Faculty of Education offers programs leading to the Bachelor of Education (BEd) and the Diploma in Education (DipEd Technological Studies). The pre-service program covers two semesters, each requiring nine weeks of course work in the Faculty. In addition, a further ten weeks of practice teaching are scheduled during the first and second semesters and a two week transition to professional practice component course at the end of the second semester. Normally, the program begins in the first week of September, and concludes at the end of April.

The basic program requirement for a student enrolled in any Initial Teacher Education program is 6 credits; 4 of which represent the in-Faculty course component and 2 of which represent the Practicum. One credit in the course component is normally equivalent to 72 hours of class time plus additional out-of-class work. The practicum consists of 18 weekly days, 10 weeks of block practice teaching and a two week transition to professional practice component.

Complete information about all programs offered by the Faculty of Education may be found in the Faculty of Education Calendar

The pre-service program is being evaluated and may be modified for the 2001-2002 academic year. Admission requirements are subject to change.
