Students in Honors Spanish or Combined Honors with Spanish may be able to take their third year at a Spanish university by special arrangement with the Department. Students in combined programs must consult both departments.
First year program in Arts, Science or Social Science, with Spanish 002 or 020 or 022E, plus two others as principal courses. Comparative Literature and Civilization 020 and English 020E are recommended. Students who begin Spanish at the university and who desire to enter any honors program involving Spanish are urged to take Spanish 020 or 022E in Intersession or Summer School, or consult the Department concerning an alternative.
After the first year the program consists of a total of at least fifteen courses: a minimum of nine Honors Spanish courses and six options. Spanish 201, 202F/G, 203F/G, 204F/G, 205F/G,218F/G*, 219F/G*, and 301 are obligatory. Comparative Literature and Civilization 020 is recommended as an option.
* Students planning to take third year in Spain should defer Spanish 218F/G and 219F/G to the third year of the program.
Approved Combinations: Anthropology, Classical Studies, English, Film Studies, French, Geography, German, Greek, History, Latin, Linguistics, Media, Information and Technoculture, Philosophy, Political Science, Religious Studies, Russian, Sociology, Visual Arts, Comparative Literature and Civilization, or Women's Studies. Geography 448a/b and one and one-half 300- or 400-level courses in Geography. Students may choose Geography 490E (thesis) which has a course weight of 1.5. The topic of the research must concern an area in which Spanish is spoken

* Students should ensure that their choice of Spanish courses fulfills the requirements of Combined Honors Programs with Spanish; i.e., at least one course in the areas of Spanish Golden Age, Modern Spanish and Spanish American.
