Course Description

English 264E American Literature

This course is a study of major works by significant American writers - Hawthorne, Melville, Whitman, Dickinson, James, Fitzgerald, Stevens and Faulkner among others. The course deals with American Literature from the Puritan era to the present day.

Antirequisites: English 220E, 221F/G, 222E, 223F/G, 225F/G, and 229F/G.
Prerequisites: At least 60% in English 020E, 022E, 024E or the former 026, and at least 60% in all subsequent English courses, or permission of the Department.
