Course Description

Earth Sciences 401a/b Plate Tectonic Geology

The salient geological, geochemical, and geophysical characteristics of modern oceans, ocean islands, arcs, foreland basins, continental rifts, and mountain systems. The identification of tectonostratigraphic terranes and plate tectonic environments in older orogenic systems of the Canadian Cordillera, the Appalachians, and the Precambrian.

Prerequisite: Earth Sciences 300b or permission of the Department.
5 lecture/tutorial hours, half course.
