Course Description

Earth Sciences 201a Introduction to Structural Geology

A discussion of the rheological properties of rocks and the conditions under which rocks deform. The significance of both large and small scale structures is discussed. Techniques for the quantitative analysis of rock deformation are introduced. Laboratory exercises include the interpretation of geological maps and the use of the spherical projection.

Prerequisite: Earth Sciences 020 or equivalent; or permission of the Department.
2 lecture hours, 3 laboratory hours, half-course.
