Course Description

Biology 282b Cell Biology

(Given by the Departments of Plant Sciences and Zoology.) Molecular and structural organization of cells in relation to function. Composition and dynamics of the plasma membrane and membrane-bound compartments in cells. Synthesis and trafficking of proteins. Cytoskeleton and cell motility. Membrane receptors in signal and energy transduction, cell-cell adhesion and recognition. Excitable membranes.

Prerequisites: A minimum grade of 60% in Biology 022 or 023; Chemistry 020 or 023.
2 lecture hours, 1 lecture/tutorial hour, half course.
Mandatory course in second or third year of BSc Biology program.
Note: It is strongly recommended that Biology 280a be taken prior to this half course.
