Course Description

Mathematics 419a/b Geometry II

Algebraic varieties, Hilbert nullstellensatz, coordinate rings and function fields, birational correspondence, affine and projective curves, Bezout's theorem, Plucker's formulas. Max Noether's fundamental theorem, divisors and linear series, the Riemann-Roch theorem, applications.

Prerequisites: Mathematics 307b and 303b. Mathematics 319a/b is desirable but not required.
3 lecture hours, half course.
