Course Description

Mathematics 207a/b Real Variables I

A careful development of elementary real variable theory: axioms for real numbers, limits, sequences, series, Bolzano-Weierstrass and Heine-Borel theorems, continuity and uniform continuity, Riemann integral, sequences and series of functions, uniform convergence, term by term differentiation and integration, interchange of orders of operations.

Prerequisite: Calculus 050a/b plus one of 051a/b or 081a/b, or Applied Mathematics 026, or the former Applied Mathematics 020, or 023a/b plus 024a/b, or the former Mathematics 027 in each case a minimum grade of "C".
4 lecture hours, half course.
