GUIDELINES FOR INSTRUCTORS ON THE USE OF PERSONAL RESPONSE SYSTEMS (“CLICKERS”)
Personal Response Systems (“clickers”) may be used in some classes. If used, instructors should contact the Classroom Management Group (CMG) unit in the Department of Institutional Planning and Budgeting well in advance of delivery of the course. If clickers are to be used by an instructor, it is the responsibility of the instructor to:
GUIDELINES FOR STUDENTS ON THE USE OF PERSONAL RESPONSE SYSTEMS (“CLICKERS”)
- give students thorough instructions on how to use the devices,
- indicate to students by what means they can confirm that the clicker is functional
- explain how the devices will be used in service of the educational objectives of the course,
- explain how tasks done by the students using the device are evaluated for their mark in the course,
- clarify that students’ privacy will be protected with respect to data gathered from the responses,
- confirm for students that data gathered using the devices will not be used for research purposes without the express written permission of the student,
- include the Guidelines for Students on the Use of Personal Response Systems in their course outlines.
Personal Response Systems (“clickers”) may be used in some classes. If clickers are to be used in a class, it is the responsibility of the student to ensure that the device is activated and functional. Students must see their instructor if they have any concerns about whether the clicker is malfunctioning.
Students must use only their own clicker. If clicker records are used to compute a portion of the course grade:
- the use of somebody else’s clicker in class constitutes a scholastic offence,
- the possession of a clicker belonging to another student will be interpreted as an attempt to commit a scholastic offence.
